The plaid shirt inspired by NIN’s Pretty Hate Machine. In April of 1990. I saw NIN open for Peter Murphy
chaos and cassette ribbon exploding onstage with the stiletto thin Peter following up in all his exquisite goth glamour.
It was all my then 14 year old heart could take. I think it was only a year later (fully hooked) when I saw them again but this time headlining at the Academy.
My obsession began as many others with the H Gun Corp art collective found footage video for “Down in it” that was so bizarrely beautiful and prompted a now infamous FBI investigation into Trent’s death. The camera carrying balloons, yes children this was the time before drones, had drifted 200 miles away and were brought to the Michigan police.
Just a decade later we got a phone call asking…can you make a few things for an MTV appearance which
blossomed into creating the wardrobe for the Fragile tour. Pretty Hate Machine is STILL a perfect album(there are NO bad songs).
