A plaid inspired by Kitchens of Distinction’s debut, Love is Hell.
Storytime….
There was a little record shop below an electronics store in White Plains, New York. At that time, it was a hidden vestige of new wave music chock full of gems that filled my own ever-growing record collection. It was there that I came across the album “Love Is Hell” by Kitchens of Distinction. Admittedly, I picked it up because of the beautiful cover design, but when I got it home and gave it a listen, that record transformed me. The seemingly endless layers of gorgeous, echoey guitars shimmering around each song were stunningly beautiful, and the fact that three people could make something so thick and lush is still unbelievable. After a few listens and re-reading the lyrics, I couldn’t believe that I was listening to a man singing unrequited love songs to other men. As a teen in the late ’80s, I was surrounded by beautiful music I could not always fully relate to, but the lyrics and voice of Patrick Fitzgerald were otherworldly and a revelation and gave me the courage and confidence to come out in high school. KOD will always be a part of who I am, and “Love Is Hell” is still one of the few albums on repeat when we design a collection.
